Hawai - Volcano Ash Eruption - First Since 1924

For the first time since 1924, an ash cloud is erupting from the Kilauea Caldera. Volcanoes National Park officials estimate the new Kilauea eruption is producing 1400 to 2000 tons of sulfur dioxide daily. The cloud of ash is visible from Hilo and is on a par with the output of Puu Oo vent - located downslope along the Kilauea rift. Meanwhile, about 30 miles away, the “Ariyoshi” flow of lava from Puu Oo now reaches the ocean after bisecting Puna’s suddenly “riverfront” Royal Gardens Subdivision - home of “red hot” real estate deals.
