Near Miss a Warning of Things to Come ?
[ Ed. Note : In this scripture it describes what appears to be a meteor hitting the Earth.

REV 8:8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;

9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

Is this a warning of how close this is to happening? Will one day, without warning a large meteor slam into the Earth? Prophecy seems to say it will.]

(1.) "'An asteroid the size of a soccer field narrowly missed Earth by 75,000 miles - less than a third of the distance to the moon and the closest known approach by objects of this size in decades ,' scientists said Thursday.

'In the unlikely event the asteroid had struck Earth in a populated area, it would have caused considerable loss of life,' said scientist Grant Stokes. 'The energy release would be of the magnitude of a large nuclear weapon .'

It wasn't detected until three days after it came close to Earth on June 14. When such asteroids are detected, they are usually spotted well out in space when they are approaching or departing Earth.

The asteroid, provisionally named 2002 MN, was traveling at more than 23,000 m.p.h. when it was spotted.

Currently, there is no dedicated program searching for objects of 2002 MN's size. NASA concentrated its efforts on bodies bigger than one kilometer (.62 of a mile) across.

'NASA has a goal of discovering and obtaining good orbits for all the near earth objects with diameters larger than 1 kilometer,' said Thomas Morgan, a NASA scientist in Washington. 'Asteroids of this size could potentially destroy civilization as we know it.'"
